Memorial Day Weekend Memories

We loaded up the RV and hit the road on Saturday morning.  (One day late due to a flat tire on Friday. Oh well.  At least it didn't happen while we were traveling!) Our destination...Manistee.  We enjoyed a well-deserved weekend of relaxing after working so hard around our house the past month.  (I deserved the weekend a little more than the boys because I had to do all the cleaning, cooking, and packing of the RV!) Keaton and his lady love went with us.  She had only camped in a tent and enjoyed the Taj Mahal experience of the motor home...especially when it rained.

I found Minion cookies!
I LOVE MINIONS!  They make me smile!!  :-)

The stairs to and from the beach wore them out.
(Or it may have been our 8 a.m. departure time.)

Matt was happy to do some fishing...
even if it was only over the campfire.
I would LOVE to live on Lake Michigan!

13 Pinballs + 1 Girl = High Score!

Friday, Matt and I headed over to the Ann Arbor Pinball Showcase.  We played lots of pinball and, again, I discovered I was one of only a handful of girls there.  But, before I left, I was able to show them that girls can play pinball just as well as boys.  Well, at least some of the time.  After playing a game and unlocking 13 multiballs, I was able to put my initials on a game for high score...something I've never done before!  Luckily Matt was hovering nearby so he could do it for me.  (Like I said, I've never done it before and had absolutely no idea how to leave my initials!)

We played a couple of games from Italy...and the double
flippers and timed games were definitely different!
Sunday, we hit the bike trails in Kalamazoo and rode 10 miles.  I still need to find a trail that's downhill both ways, though!  ;-)

No, we did NOT wear matching shirts on purpose!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to me (and to you other mothers)!

Keaton came up for the day and brought along some fruit
he dipped in chocolate.  Yum!

He also brought some pretty flowers and a pretty pink vase.
He must know pink is my favorite color!

I spent Mother's Day on the computer making
my nephew's graduation party announcements.
It's a long and frustrating story.
Anyway, this is how I celebrated after
the boys brought home chicken for dinner.

Sign

A sign I made.  Wouldn't the world be a much better place if people just followed my rules?

Changes

Big changes are happening at our home.  The biggest one is the FOR SALE sign on the front lawn.  The second biggest one is the kitchen counter transformation we did ourselves one weekend.  I love the look of stone counter tops, but I refuse to pay the ridiculous price!  Plus, many people get granite and don't know that they can stain and have to be sealed every year.  Our counter transformation wasn't hard, but it did require two people and it did create a mess.  But, it's totally worth any inconvenience...plus, I didn't have to cook for a week!

Our first step was applying the colored adhesive.  Then, working quickly, we applied the granite chips and let them adhere for 24 hours.  Then, we scraped off the excess chips.  Matt sanded and sanded and sanded. Then he sanded some more.  I wiped and wiped and wiped.  Then I wiped some more. Finally, it was time to put on the clear topcoat and...voila!  I LOVE THEM!  I wish we had done this years ago!!  We'd totally recommend the kit to anyone looking to make their counter tops look like new, without spending an incredible amount of money!!

The BEFORE (ugly) counter tops.  (I have been living with battery acid on the back counter for the past 17 years.  That's 17 years too long!)

The kit we used:

The AFTER (fabulous) counter tops:

Oh, we also made another change to the kitchen.  Whoo hoo!  This one was only about 25 years in the making.  But, it's really nice to finally have a water dispenser and an ice maker...other than me!
